COK Investigation at a North Carolina Turkey Hatchery

I received Compassion over Killing's newsletter in the mail this week, and even the still pictures from this video were heart-wrenching. My six-year old daughter saw them and said, "I want to change it." I didn't let her see the video. I hope there's a way to stop animal factories like this. I fear that most people are under the delusion that their turkeys grow up happily on farms.

This world in which we live... it makes me incredibly sad. Way too often.

I'm in the UK, and the recent outbreak of H5N1, which resulted in the culling of 2500 birds, brought home to the UK people who didn't already know the conditions in which birds are 'processed' on a mass scale.

During massive TV news coverage, we saw rows and rows of small sheds, each housing hundreds of turkeys, and were told by the reporter that 'no birds ever venture outside'. Of course, this was intended as reassurance, meaning that the virus couldn't spread to the wild bird population, but it was anything but reassurance for those who buy mass-produced turkeys and think they have had good lives.

Compassion Over Killing has joined up with Vegan Outreach on another new campaign.

It turns out Morningstar Farms' vegetarian products are made with eggs from battery caged hens. Check out the link for pictures of factory farm egg operations and to ask Morningstar to quit using eggs.

It would be so awesome if we could make Morningstar go vegan. I can't remember the last time I had a corn dog!

Wow. I am amazed, mostly, at the lack of knowledge people have about the conditions that their food (animals) are grown in...

It IS sad.

Hey - I just ran across your blog and enjoyed it - I'll have to check back!
